Firewood Rack Plans

by Ovidiu

This step by step woodworking project is about firewood rack plans. Storing firewood during winter doesn’t have to be a problem anymore, if you build a basic wooden structure. Generally speaking, if the wood is not in contact with the ground, then it will be in a good condition. Nevertheless, if these plans don’t fit your needs, we recommend you to check out the rest of our shed plans, as we will most certainly find something that fits your needs.

Before starting the actual project, you need to assess your needs, otherwise you might end up with a small shed that isn’t large enough to store all the firewood. Afterwards, you should buy the materials for the job and gather the required tools. If you want to build this shed, then you have to buy 2×4 pressure-treated slats, otherwise you can get the job done with several pallets and screws. See all my Premium Plans HERE.

Building a firewood rack

Building the frame of the rack

Building the frame of the rack

The first step pf the woodworking project is to build the frame of the firewood rack. In order to get the job done in a professional manner, we recommend you to cut the components at the right size.

Drill pilot holes through the side components and insert 2 1/2′ screws into the perpendicular components. Make sure the corners are right-angled and leave no gaps between the components.

Fitting the legs

Fitting the legs

Continue the garden project by fitting the corner posts to the frame of the firewood rack. Cut the wooden components at the right size and lock them to the frame by inserting 2 1/2″ galvanized screws.

Plumb the posts with a spirit level and make sure the corners are square before inserting the screws. Adjust the size of the components according to your needs and create durable joints.

Fitting the braces

Fitting the braces

In order to enhance the rigidity of the firewood rack, we suggest you to fit the crass-braces, as described in the diagram. Cut both ends at 45 degrees and secure them to the frame tightly. Drill pilot holes before inserting the screws to prevent the wood from splitting.

Last but not least, you should take care of the finishing touches. Therefore, make sure the hoop frames are plumb and equally spaced. You could cover the raised bed with polyethylene film, to raise the air and soil temperature.

Top Tip: If you want to save yourself from work, you should install a simple drip-irrigation system. The drip emitters will deliver water to the plants roots constantly, so you just have to wait until the first harvest.
