Norm is on the move again, this time he is in the Tuscany region of Italy where he finds a handcrafted table rescued from a very old monastery. Turned Post Bed Woodworking Plan Featuring Norm Abram

Just because the length of the bed posts are 54 inches does not mean you need an industrial size lathe to get the job done. The posts are made in two parts. Plenty of strength on the mortise and tenon construction too. The side rails measure 74 inches and the head/foot rails measure 35.5 inches. If you want it any wider than that, you will have to stretch your pattern. The inspiration for this project comes from an old bed found at the Concord Museum in Massachusetts. In England these are typically called sideboards. In North America they are also called a buffet, servers or hunt boards.
