Chisel Holder
It helps to have a chisel holder when you are working on a lathe. Most Woodturners like to change chisels frequently, and it is a real timesaver to have them handy.

Dowel Making Jig
This is a link to a Google 3D SketchUp drawing for a jig I made so I could turn walnut dowels. You will need the SketchUp software to download this drawing and its freely available online. We do not provide support for this software. Not all drawings have the measurements displayed but you can use the measurement tool in SketchUp to easily and accurately determine the dimensions of each lumber part. Most drawings do not have instructions, its assumed you can build it based on the completed drawing provided.

Longworth Chuck
A few years ago I came across an article from WoodTurning.com on something called the Longworth chuck and resolved to make one because the idea of a self-contained scrolling set of Cole jaws was just too appealing to resist. I finally got around to it, a...

Chair, Childs Ladderback
Here is a very simple and sturdy childs chair that any homecrafter can build even if he has only a little turning experience. We recommend building the chair from maple, oak or birch since any of these hard woods will take a lot of abuse.

Bowl, End Grain
Recently I was asked to explain how to turn a natural edged, end grain bowl. That is, a bowl with the grain running parallel to the lathe bed and the edge of the log left as the bowl edge. If you want a smooth edged bowl, just turn the piece round as you start. It will make sense as we go.

Stand, Mini Lathe (PDF)
A mini-lathe packs some pretty serious turning capability into a tiny package. But just because they are small does not mean that you can set your mini-lathe up on a wimpy, lightweight stand. Just like a full-size lathe, a mini-lathe needs a stand that is heavy and rigid enough to absorb vibrations. The cutting diagrams and materials list are available to download in this Online Extra.

Balls - Wood Spheres
My first shot at turning a Sphere on the Lathe was time consuming but it all turned out well in the end, just a matter of checking and rechecking everything and doing it often!! I spent a lot of time drawing everything out before putting tool to wood, I hope this all helps.

Lathe Duplicator Rig
by Ken Grunke - Inspired by Don Derrys adaption of Marco Beraras design, which Don posted in the WoW File Cabinet on Jan. 28, 2007. After seeing that rig, my version was hastily cobbled together using spare parts from my scrap bins. Easily put together using salvaged/found parts, or purchased off the shelf.

Inlay woodworking
In the following discussion, detailed step-by-step instructions take the reader through a series of wood inlay and marquetry projects, starting with very simple designs in marquetry and progressing to more advanced projects. After that, true inlay, inlay turning and related subjects will be discussed. Every effort has been made to keep this guide to the craft clear enough for the beginning worker and at the same time to make it complete enough so that the advanced craftsman may find benefit and recreation by following it.

Jig, Fluting Router - for turned spindles
By John Lucas - Several years ago I built a jig for my router so that I could cut flutes in spindles that were turned on the lathe. I did this because I needed to make a fluted split turning for an antique clock. It worked great.
