Jig, Miter Board
Isometric drawing of a shooting board used to cut 45 degree angles for frames. For use with a table saw. DXF Format

Jig, Shelf Hole Drilling
This jig allows for evenly spaced shelf holes, if they have to be drilled with a hand drill in a pre-assembled unit. Only the position of the top holes on each side have to be marked, once they are drilled a pin goes into those holes through the top hole in the stepping block and the next hole is drilled.

Jig, Drill Press I-Beam
Drilling holes in small pieces can be hard to do on a drill press. If you try to hold them with your hand, they want to spin when the bit breaks through the back side. So to prevent this, I made an auxiliary table to hold small pieces securely, as you can see in the photo.

Jig, Hole Drilling
Recently, I made a cribbage board and needed a way to accurately drill the several rows of holes. I solved this problem by building a jig with a micro-adjustment feature for the drill press.

Jig, Drill Press
The work tables on most drill presses are designed for working with metal. For working with wood, we need a larger work surface and a more versatile way to clamp the work piece. This table, by use of T-Track , hold down clamps, and toggle clamps permits accurate clamping and positioning of the work piece.

All on the Same Bench
This is a link to a Google 3D SketchUp drawing for an all-in-one workbench which allows you to install a circular saw, jig saw and a router. You will need the SketchUp software to download this drawing and its freely available online. We do not provide support for this software. Not all drawings have the measurements displayed but you can use the measurement tool in SketchUp to easily and accurately determine the dimensions of each lumber part. Most drawings do not have instructions, its assumed you can build it based on the completed drawing provided.

Featherboard, A New Kind of
I have always had problems with traditional finger-type featherboards. It is a real nuisance to discover that when the featherboard is applying enough pressure to hold the workpiece securely, it is hard to push the wood through the blade. I finally came up with a couple of alternatives that hold the stock tightly, yet do not resist forward movement. A further very big advantage of these jigs is that they permit safe climb cutting on the router table for unusual situations or for wood that has a tendency to splinter.

Jig, Dovetail Trimming
I used to trim dovetails with a chisel or a belt sander. However, using the chisel was slow work, and the belt sander made it too easy to round the corners or gouge the face of my workpiece. I found a better solution using my router, a straight bit, and a simple auxiliary router base that I made from scrap stock.

Jig, Indexing
Featherboards are a great way to hold a workpiece firmly against a fence or table surface. But there is more to a featherboard than just sawing kerfs in the end of a board. The problem is cutting evenly-spaced kerfs so the fingers flex just the right amount. With the indexing jig shown below, cutting the kerfs is easy and accurate.

Jig, Handy Glue Up
Whenever I make picture frames, I like to use a clamping jig to keep the assembled frame flat and square during the gluing stage.

Plant Stand (PDF)
Anthony Bailey uses a homemade laminating jig for this plant stand. When I started this project it seemed deceptively simple, which in one sense it is but there are two distinct aspects to it, laminated legs and the routed top and shelf. There are not many components but it is important to get them right so it looks well proportioned and strong.

Jig, Clamping - for Panel Door
When I decided to build a set of kitchen cabinets, I had to make and assemble about three dozen raised panel doors. Instead of using pipe or bar clamps for this task, I came up with my own clamping jig.

Jig, Taper - Adjustable (PDF)
This taper jig is accurate and can accommodate a wide variety of lengths, widths, and thicknesses of stock. It also works great for making straight rip cuts on narrow pieces of stock. Jig, Router Table Indexing
Recently I had to cut a series of evenly spaced dadoes across the sides of some small display shelves I was making. I wanted to make the dadoes on my router table, and I needed a way to space them evenly. That is when I came up with the idea for an auxiliary table fitted with an index pin.

Jig, Tenon - for Router Table
The router table is one of my most favorite tools in the workshop. A lot of people don not realize what a great job the router table does cutting tenons. Before I made this jig I used to use the standard miter gauge to cut tenons then I saw this simple jig featured by Pat Warner in FineWoodworking magazine.
