Whenever you need to make a series of matching dadoes for a project, the most important part of the process is aligning the two shoulder cuts of the dadoes accurately to the blade. Here is a simple jig you can build to help make this job a lot more accurate.

free plans woodworking resource from WoodworkingTips - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Disc Flattener
Sanding discs tend to curl up when not in use. I find this a real hassle when trying to place a PSA (pressure sensitive adhesive) or hook and loop disc on my sander, especially if I don not get it on straight the first time. So I came up with a small shop jig that helps keep them flat.

When I need to enlarge a hole in a door for a new lockset (say, from 2-1/8 to 2-3/8 inch), I use a shop-made guide and a standard hole saw.

free plans woodworking resource from WoodworkingTips - free woodworking plans projects Jig, Dovetail Trimming
I used to trim dovetails with a chisel or a belt sander. However, using the chisel was slow work, and the belt sander made it too easy to round the corners or gouge the face of my workpiece. I found a better solution using my router, a straight bit, and a simple auxiliary router base that I made from scrap stock.

free plans woodworking resource from SawdustMaking - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Dowel
This jig requires one piece of hardwood 3/4 inches square X 5 1/2 inches inches long and one piece 3/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches X 5 1/2 inches long. Mark off the 5 1/2 inches long piece as shown below, clamp it to the 3/4 inches X 2 1/2 inches piece, 1 1/2 inches from the top edge and drill the four 1/4 inches holes. It would be best to use a drill press for this if possible as the holes should be square.

Cutting multiple short dowel pins can be tedious work. So I made a simple dowel pin cutting jig to speed things up. This jig only takes a few minutes to make and set up on your table saw. Then it is easy to quickly cut dowels to equal length without measuring.

free plans woodworking resource from BobsPlans - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Drill Press
The work tables on most drill presses are designed for working with metal. For working with wood, we need a larger work surface and a more versatile way to clamp the work piece. This table, by use of T-Track , hold down clamps, and toggle clamps permits accurate clamping and positioning of the work piece.

free plans woodworking resource from WoodworkingTips - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Drill Press I-Beam
Drilling holes in small pieces can be hard to do on a drill press. If you try to hold them with your hand, they want to spin when the bit breaks through the back side. So to prevent this, I made an auxiliary table to hold small pieces securely, as you can see in the photo.

free plans woodworking resource from BobsPlans - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Drill Press Pocket Hole
The pocket hole joint is one of the easiest joints to make. This joint is much faster and simpler than dowel joints because you only drill the hole in one of the pieces you need to join. You simply apply some glue, clamp the pieces together, and insert the screw.

free plans woodworking resource from Turned Wood - free plans projects patterns woodworking Jig, Faceplate Cutoff Fixture
I turn almost all of my turnings glued to a faceplate. I usually part the turnings off the faceplate but I wanted to share a fixture that my friend Sonnie Sharrar uses to cut the faceplates off his bowls. The fixture in the photos is a bit different than Sonnie, but I tend to turn larger bowls and this fixture can handle them.

There was a problem when I tried to use a router with a flush trim bit to trim the edging. The front surface of the edging was not wide enough to support the router. So I built a simple jig to solve this problem.

Instead of a bearing to register the depth of cut, this jig uses a block of wood for a fence, clamped and lagged to the base of the router. The overhanging edgebanding moves into a rabbet recess in the block where it is trimmed flush by the router bit.
