If using edge banding, it should be applied to the exposed edges of the panels before assembly. For an easy how-to, take a look at this tutoril on applying edge banding.

Step One

Cut the pieces for the legs and side panels. If desired, a taper can be cut in each leg using a tapering jig and a tablesaw, or a jig saw. It is entirely optional but be sure to maintain the dimensions shown. The tapers should face to the inside of the cabinet.

Drill pocket holes in each side as well as the top of the side panels. Attach the legs to the panels using glue and the pocket hole screws. The inside face of the panels will be flush with the inside face (the tapered side, if cutting tapers) of the legs.

Step Four

Cut the pieces for the stretchers and drill pocket holes in each end. When attaching the stretchers to the legs, orient the two lower stretchers so the pocket holes are facing down and the upper stretcher so the pocket holes are facing up. This way, they will be hidden!
