Your Workshop Outfit and Organize Give your tools a modular home For years, I've pondered how to keep existing tools in place in drawers and still leave room for new tools. Finally, I devised a modular system that gives me a solution to the problem. By WOOD Magazine Staff WOOD Magazine Staff Launched in 1984, WOOD® magazine is the world's most trusted woodworking resource — a distinction we've earned by guaranteeing our readers' success in their woodworking shops. It is the mission of our staff to inspire and inform woodworkers at every stage of their journey by providing reliable and accurate project plans, woodworking techniques, and product reviews. WOOD magazine's Editorial Process Published on July 26, 2016 First, I cut a sheet of 1⁄4 " perforated hardboard to create a base to fit into the bottom of each drawer. Then I drew an outline of each tool on another piece of perforated hardboard, and cut a rectangular module around each tool outline. I cut out the tool shapes with a scrollsaw and glued 1⁄4 " dowels into two corners of each module. The dowels pin the modules into place in the drawer, and the cutouts keep the tools in their place. For maximum organizational flexibility, cut all the module dimensions to even 1" increments—hat way they'll interchange more easily. --Jonathon Sommer, Roy, Utah If you would like clearly illustrated woodworking plans with step-by-step instruction, a materials list, a cutting diagram, and how-to photography, visit the WOOD Store for more than 500 project plans, tool reviews, woodworking techniques, and articles from past issues of WOOD magazine.
